Creating the Album Cover: Alan Z - “Web”
The album cover for Alan Z’s “Web” was brought to life using a combination of traditional artistic techniques and modern digital tools. The primary method used for this piece was the airbrush tool in Procreate on my iPad, allowing for precise control over texture, shading, and atmosphere. This technique gave me the ability to create the smooth, glowing skin tones and dramatic lighting effects that define the overall mood of the image.

Starting with a vision of blending sensuality with subtle danger, I carefully built the image layer by layer. The airbrush method helped me sculpt the subject’s face with soft gradients, ensuring a lifelike yet ethereal quality. I focused heavily on lighting, using cool purples and ultraviolet tones to accentuate the subject’s features while creating deep shadows that enhance the sense of mystery.
Procreate’s intuitive interface allowed me to work dynamically, adjusting the opacity and intensity of the airbrush to seamlessly blend elements like the woman’s face and the faint presence of the spider. This balance of light and dark was key to the design, as I wanted to evoke a sense of emotional complexity—something beautiful yet dangerous, intimate yet distant.
Album Cover Design: Alan Z - “Web”
The result is a powerful visual narrative that perfectly complements Alan Z’s music. The cover draws viewers into an immersive world of desire and tension, where the subject’s closed eyes and parted lips suggest a moment of deep emotional entanglement. The choice of purple hues and ultraviolet lighting adds to the nocturnal, dreamlike atmosphere, amplifying the sense of seduction and intrigue.
The subtle inclusion of a spider, airbrushed delicately near the woman’s neck, introduces a symbolic element to the design. The spider represents both danger and the intricate web of emotions that the album explores. It hints at themes of being caught in something larger than oneself—whether it’s love, obsession, or emotional vulnerability.
The typography is minimal, ensuring that the image remains the focal point. The word “Web” sits elegantly above the subject, reinforcing the dual meaning of entanglement and digital interconnectedness, both of which align with the complexity of Alan Z’s music.
By combining modern airbrush techniques with a thoughtful use of color and symbolism, this album cover captures the essence of the music—delivering a visual experience that is as evocative and layered as the sounds within.
